About
Valarts

I was nine years old when I first learned to sew with a sewing machine. At that young age, I made outfits for my dolls—and over the years, I went on to sew my prom dresses, my wedding dress, and countless other creations.
In 1974, I created my first quilt, never imagining that it would lead to a lifelong passion for textile arts, particularly art quilts. Over the decades, quilting has evolved for me from a functional craft into a powerful form of artistic expression.
I find great joy in exploring new ideas, experimenting with color, texture, and design, and transforming fabric into dynamic works of art. It is gratifying to view nature and the world through my artistic lens, and create quilts that invite curiosity, evoke emotion, and inspire a sense of awe.
I have lived in Puyallup, Washington, (land of generous people) for over fifty years. Known for stunning views of Mount Rainier, a vibrant downtown, the Washington State Fair, and its thriving Arts Downtown sculptures, Puyallup is a community that inspires creativity.

Where every quilt tells a story
of Quilting
Among my creations are traditional quilts, storytelling quilts, ethnic themed quilts, travel inspired quilts and quilts of compassion. Painting with fiber and thread, as well as quilting in reverse are favorite techniques. Free motion quilting and story-telling quilts will be my next challenges.
The Art

My Quilts
My work celebrates the art of quilting as both a creative expression and a form of storytelling. My creations include traditional quilts, narrative and storytelling quilts, ethnic-inspired and travel-inspired pieces, and quilts of compassion.
I especially enjoy “painting” with fiber and thread, using color, texture, and stitch to bring each piece to life. Reverse quilting is another favorite technique, offering a unique way to explore dimension and design.
I’m always looking for new ways to challenge myself creatively. Free-motion quilting and further exploration of storytelling quilts are exciting next steps in my artistic journey.
